Randy Wilkinson

The Washington County Historical Society is proud to present the 2025 Distinguished Citizen Award to Randy W. Wilkinson. This distinguished honor, presented at our annual Utah’s Dixie History Preservation Gala, recognizes Randy’s decades of leadership in business, civic engagement, and education. His vision and dedication have strengthened local institutions, supported community initiatives, and helped preserve the unique heritage and spirit of Utah’s Dixie. Through his efforts, Washington County’s history continues to be celebrated and shared with future generations.

Key Contributions to Southern Utah

  • Born in Cedar City, Utah, and raised in St. George, in the heart of Utah’s Dixie.

  • Graduate of Dixie High School and attended Dixie College; earned a Bachelor’s degree and an MBA from Brigham Young University.

  • Returned to St. George to manage and eventually become Owner and CEO of Wilkinson Electric, Inc., a family-owned company founded in 1945 by his father, Kay W. Wilkinson.

  • Under his leadership since 1974, Wilkinson Electric expanded into Northern Utah while maintaining a strong reputation for excellence, professionalism, and integrity in Southern Utah’s electrical contracting industry.

 

🏛️ Civic Engagement

  • Served 10 years on the St. George City Council, 2 years on the Planning Commission, and 3 years on the Water and Power Board, contributing to local governance, community development, and utilities management.

  • Served 16 years on the Dixie College Board of Trustees, including 6 years as Chairman, and as President of the Dixie College Foundation, providing leadership, strategic direction, and supporting fundraising and scholarship initiatives.

  • Served as Rotary Club President and Director of the St. George Chamber of Commerce, fostering community service, leadership, and local business growth.

  • Served as a Director on the Heritage Arts Foundation (Tuacahn) and as a Founder and Committee Member of the Dixie Rotary Bowl, promoting cultural enrichment and supporting youth and community activities.

  • Served as Chairman of both the Snow Canyon and Virgin River Districts of Boy Scouts of America.

  • Served a two-year mission in Scotland and later as Mission President, Area Seventy, Temple President, Stake President, and Bishop, demonstrating lifelong commitment to faith and guiding others.

 

🏅 Awards and Recognition

  • Honored as Outstanding Young Businessman.

  • Received the Scouting District Award of Merit for service to youth and the Second Miler Award for leadership in community initiatives.

  • Recognized with the Distinguished Republican Award for civic engagement and public service.

  • Received an Honorary Doctorate of Humanities from Dixie State College for his decades of leadership in business, education, and community service.

  • Contributed to the Defending Southwestern Utah Heritage Coalition, advocating for the protection of Southern Utah’s unique heritage and regional identity.

  • Known for his vision, dedication, and enduring Dixie Spirit, helping ensure that the story and values of Utah’s Dixie continue to be shared with future generations.
